Holy Spirit Festivals in the Parishes of Ponta Delgada

Right after the Holy Christ of Miracles Festival ends the parishes start preparing for the Holy Spirit celebrations. Hundreds of these ‘impérios’ (the name of the small church where the Holy Spirit artefacts are displayed, as well as the name of the event itself) take place every year in the parishes of Ponto Delgada to honor the third entity of the Trinity.

Together with the Mass service and the coronation parade, due to the popular profile of this devotion, there is also the offering of meat and bread soup to all residents and visitors.

As it happens during the festivals in honor of the parish saint, these Holy Spirit events also have a more mundane side, comprising brass bands concerts, folklore dancing, to name a few.
