Sports Events

The sports venues, the cityscape and the natural landscape offer the conditions for the several sports events held in the municipality.

Motor sports as the rally, individual sports as the São Silvestre Race and collective sports as soccer, as well as nautical sports — diving, jet ski, big game fishing — are some of the examples of a large variety of sports events taking place in Ponta Delgada.

Physical Activites and Cycling

Avenue João Bosco Mota Amaral and Avenida do Mar are some of the varied areas and venues in Ponta Delgada that are fit for physical activities, of which cycling is a fine example.

The two promenades have now a bike lane that takes bikers through several points of interest, as the bathing area of Forno da Cal (an old lime kiln), Rosto do Cão islet, and close to one of the São Roque beaches. It’s perfect for a hike with a breath-taking sea view.
