Fonte Bela Family Palace

The imposing mansion that borders the Rua Direita on the western side, next to the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, is an erudite construction following the so-called "Micaelense style", which has a lot to do with the orange trade dominant in the Azores in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It was owned by Manuel Inácio da Silveira, Baron of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, who donated to this church, inaugurated in 1871, part of one of his farms in Fajã de Cima.

In 1813, it served as a residence to the Count of Sabugal, Miguel Assis Mascarenhas Castelo Branco, who had been deported to Sao Miguel due to the unfounded accusation of having conspired against the prince regent, Dom João VI.
