Câmara Medeiros Family Palace

The date of 1741 is inscribed in the baroque style pediment, above the entrance portico; this is where siblings Duarte Borges da Câmara Medeiros (future Visconde da Praia), António Borges da Câmara Medeiros (creator of the beautiful Ponta Delgada botanical garden bearing his name) and Maria José Borges da Câmara Medeiros (benefactor of Santa Casa da Misericórdia) were born. The coat of arms that can be seen at the center includes the arms of the Câmara, Coutinho, Medeiros and Borges families.

After serving as a primary school for several decades (between 1935 and 1988), the palace was in terrible condition and underwent, already in the 21st century, important restoration works.
