São Francisco Square – São José

The name derives from the past existence of the São Francisco Convent, built there in the 16th century. It is the largest square in the city and one of the largest in the Azores, and it’s framed by remarkable religious, military and domestic architecture.

For more than 300 years the Campo has hosted the Feast in honor of the Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, congregating thousands of devotees around it.
