Former São Pedro Square. The current designation is the result of a tribute from the Ponta Delgada Municipality to Rear Admiral Herbert Owar Dunn (1857-1939), who lived there in the house that became St. Peter's Hotel, founded by another American, Thomas Hickling, the first consul of the United States of America in the Azores.
The Rear Admiral was the first commander of the naval base of the United States of America in Ponta Delgada, having been distinguished in 1919 as Honorary Citizen of Ponta Delgada.
