Headquarters of the Parish Council of Fajã de Baixo

The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, which already existed in the time of Gaspar Frutuoso (1522-1591), was located in the place where today is the headquarters of the Parish Council. By a charter of July 12, 1783, Dean Mateus Homem Borges da Costa, on behalf of the bishop of Angra, José da Ave Maria, authorized Captain Agostinho de Barros Lobo to rebuild the chapel.

The new location would be right next door, where the council library is now. Although municipal services have been operating there since 1985, the building was only acquired on May 24, 1995, by the Parish Council then presided by João Carlos Macedo.
