- Ponta Delgada
The county of Ponta Delgada covers a total area of 231,89 km² (57,3 acres) and is located in the southeast tip of the São Miguel island.
Its surface is very mountainous and has its highest point at the Sete Cidades range, with 856 m (2080 ft) above sea level; in this range we can also find the lakes of Sete Cidades, Canário, Carvão, Rasa, to name a few.
The coast line is made of cliffs and rocky shoals, with some dark sand beaches.
The landscape of the county is almost fully exploited by man, whether in agriculture or cattle breeding; its forests are mostly made up of the Japanese cedar (Criptomeria japonica).
The climate, as in most of the Azores, is a mild maritime one, with a narrow temperature range: the annual temperature average oscillates between 14 and 25° C (57 and 77° F).
The county’s seat is in the town of Ponta Delgada, which comprises 4 parishes: Santa Clara, São José, São Sebastião and São Pedro.
